Point Fortin, officially the Republic Borough of Point Fortin, is the smallest borough in Trinidad and Tobago. Located on the southwestern peninsula of Trinidad, approximately 32 kilometres southwest of San Fernando in the historic county of Saint Patrick, it covers roughly 25 square kilometres with a population of approximately 20,235 people. Once a quiet agricultural community defined by cocoa and coconut estates, Point Fortin was transformed in 1907 when Trinidad Oilfields Limited sank its first oil well on the La Fortunée Estate. The petroleum industry reshaped the town into a major oil-producing hub, culminating in its inauguration on 30 April 1980 as the first Republic Borough in the history of Trinidad and Tobago. After economic recession in the 1980s, the establishment of Atlantic LNG in the mid-1990s revitalised the borough. Today, its four-train liquefaction facility is one of the world's largest LNG operations. Point Fortin is culturally renowned for its annual Borough Day celebrations, headlined by Pan on the Move, a steelband road festival drawing tens of thousands of spectators each year. The borough's identity remains deeply rooted in its oil heritage and the resilience of its people.
