About Charlotteville

Charlotteville represents Tobago's most remote and unspoiled coastal village, offering stunning bays, traditional fishing culture, and eco-tourism experiences on the island's northeast coast. The village features small guesthouses, local restaurants serving fresh seafood, dive operators, and basic services that support visitors seeking authentic Caribbean coastal life. Charlotteville provides access to Man O'War Bay and Pirate's Bay, both offering excellent swimming, snorkelling, and natural beauty. The community maintains active fishing operations, with boats launching daily and catches supplying local eateries and the village market. Visitors experience genuine Tobago village culture here, with opportunities to engage with fishermen, explore hiking trails, and enjoy beaches without crowds. Charlotteville's limited development preserves its natural character while offering adequate amenities through family-run establishments and community services. The scenic journey to Charlotteville along Tobago's windward coast adds adventure to the destination's appeal. Dive shops and tour operators provide access to nearby coral reefs, the Speyside channel, and marine protected areas. Charlotteville continues to balance tourism growth with community values and environmental conservation, maintaining its position as Tobago's premier off-the-beaten-path coastal destination. Guide to Car Rental

A rental car gives you the freedom to explore beaches, villages and lookouts at your own pace. Driving is on the left in Trinidad and Tobago, roads can be narrow and winding, and traffic around Port of Spain is heavy at peak times.

Visitors aged 17 or older can drive on a foreign licence issued by a country that signed the Geneva Convention, for up to 90 days from arrival, or on an International Driving Permit. Carry your licence, the certificate of insurance and a travel document showing your arrival date.

Questions visitors ask

What do I need to rent a car?

A valid driving licence, ID or passport, and a payment card for the deposit. Each company sets its own minimum age and deposit, so check before you book.

Is insurance included?

Policies vary. Ask what the insurance covers, what the excess is, and whether extra cover is available.

Can I take a rental car to Tobago?

Check with the rental company first, as some do not allow their cars on the ferry. Renting a separate car in Tobago is often simpler.
