Scarborough marks its fishermen’s festival in early April, honouring the community that works the island’s south-western waters. Fishermen’s festivals in Tobago centre on the blessing of boats and nets, usually opening with a church service before a procession to the water. Boat races, food stalls and music fill out the day, and the whole village turns out. These are working community occasions rather than staged events, and visitors are welcome to share in the celebration on Scarborough’s waterfront.
