Island of Tobago – Paradise

Tobago a beautiful Caribbean land, population 60,874.  Located northeast of Trinidad. She is known as the twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago.

Tobago is the smaller of the twin, initially inhabited by the Caribs. Tobago got its name from the Carib word Tavaco, which is the pipe the Amerindians smoked tobacco leaves.

The Island of Tobago, an area of 300 km² and approximately 40 kilometres (25 miles) long and 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) wide. This paradise is located at a latitude of 11 degrees 15 minutes North and longitude 60 degrees 40 minutes West, slightly north of Trinidad.

Tobago is known for steelpan, limbo, gorgeous beaches, lush greenery and carnival festivities. Some of the most beautiful beaches of Tobago are Pigeon Point, Englishman’s Bay, Castara, Pirate’s Bay, Mt. Irvine, Speyside, Store Bay, Canoe Bay, Blood Bay.

The animal population consist of anteater, nine-banded armadillo, capuchin monkey, porcupine, agouti,11 species of bats, ocelots, racoon, peccary, opossum, snakes, scorpions, a range of toads and frogs and birds.

Tobago is famous for delicious food. Popular callaloo served with cornmeal, coo-coo, cassava, sweet potatoes, dumplings and curry crab.

Tobago is the host of the Tobago Jazz Festival, Blue Food festival and Carnival. With the majestic forest reserve, beautiful beaches, glass-bottom boats on the coral reef and all-island festivals, Tobago is an ideal tropical vacation place.
