Guide to Trini Attractions

Trinidad and Tobago packs a lot into two islands. In a single day you can walk a colonial fort above Port of Spain, swim on the north coast and end the evening in a pan yard. Tobago adds quiet bays, coral reefs and the Main Ridge Forest Reserve, described as the oldest legally protected forest reserve in the Western Hemisphere.

Opening hours, entry fees and access change, and many places are run by small local teams. Check the listing for contact details before you travel, and allow extra time for traffic and winding roads.

Questions visitors ask

What are the must-see attractions?

Popular starting points are the north coast beaches, Fort George and Fort King George, the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, the Main Ridge Forest Reserve in Tobago and a pan yard visit in the run-up to Carnival.

Do I need a guide?

Not for most beaches, forts and museums. For rainforest hikes, waterfalls and turtle watching, a local tour guide is safer and you will see more.

When is the best time to visit?

The dry season, from January to May, is the most popular time. The rainy season, from June to December, brings greener forests but more flooding and road delays.
