Guide to Dive Sites

Tobago is the main diving destination, with sites off Speyside, Little Tobago, Crown Point and the Caribbean coast. Currents around Tobago can be strong, so many dives are drift dives, planned and led by local dive operators. Visibility and conditions change with the season and the weather.

Some sites sit inside protected areas with their own rules. In the Buccoo Reef Marine Park, for example, fishing of any kind is prohibited and visitors need a valid access permit.

Questions visitors ask

Do I need to be certified?

Yes, for most dives you need a recognised diving certification. Many operators also run courses and introductory dives for beginners.

Can I dive without an operator?

It is not advised. Local operators know the currents, the entry points and the rules for protected areas, and they provide boats and safety cover.

How do I protect the reef?

Do not touch or stand on coral, keep your fins clear of the reef and take nothing away. Use reef-safe sun protection.
