Guide to Fishing Spots

Fishing is part of everyday life in coastal villages across Trinidad and Tobago, and many visitors enjoy a quiet hour on a jetty or a day out on a boat. Sport fishing trips run from marinas and fishing villages, and local fishermen can sometimes take visitors out by arrangement.

Some areas are protected. Fishing of any kind is prohibited in the Buccoo Reef Marine Park in Tobago, and other protected areas have their own rules. Respect local fishermen, their boats and their nets.

Questions visitors ask

Do I need a licence to fish?

Rules depend on where and how you fish. Check with the operator, the marina or the relevant authority before you go.

Can I hire a boat?

Yes. Charter operators and some local fishermen offer trips. Agree the price, the time out and the safety equipment on board before you leave.

What should I bring?

Water, sun protection, a hat and a light jacket for the boat. Ask whether bait and tackle are included.
